The General membership Meeting Minutes follow:
Welcome: The Leavenworth Bass Club held its monthly meeting on the September 8th , 2015 at the Ft Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club. There were 24 members present. The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Secretary’s Report: The August newsletter was emailed to all members. The current roster is posted on the web site. Three members were reminded that their BASS memberships expired soon: Steve Clark, 10/31, Randy Kenton, 11/31, and Ray Cates on 11/30. A reminder that we will elect officers for 2016 at the October meeting, and a notice will be sent to those eligible for office. We will also determine the sportsman of the year and discuss what we would like from BPS if they donate the top ten angler awards again. We will vote on any changes or new tournament rules at the November meeting. The secretary report was approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: Kenny reports that the club checking account had a starting balance of $4,560.48 and an ending balance of $4,825.09. The Fishing for Freedom checking account had a beginning balance of $38,324.24 and ending balance of $41, 786.69. PAYPAL account has a balance of $600.59. The Treasurer’s report was approved as presented.
Conservation Committee Report: : There were several bags of used plastics turned in for recycling. Bring your used plastic thingies and line to the next meeting so Dan can turn it in. Also, Dan will try to find more information about fish habitat that KS Parks and Wildlife has been providing to lakes around Kansas. This could be a possible conservation project for our club in the near future.
Youth Committee Report: The NWMSU fishing club is planning a Fall 2015 “Bearcat Open” at Mozingo on the 25th of October and is asking for our support. This will be an “open” tournament which means we can form up with a college student and fish as a team, unlike before when we were just boat drivers. Don’t know yet how many students might want to fish, but Bill will send that information when available. The flyer was provided in a separate email.
Dennis discussed the possibility of the LBC sponsoring a high school team. According to BASS, we can sponsor a team in KS even though we are in MOBASS. Dennis will talk to the principal at Leavenworth High School to find out how this can be done, or if we need to wait till the next school year starts. The requirement is to have at least 12 members in the club, which should not be a problem. It was suggested we add $200.00 to the budget in case we are able to start this club during the next year.
Banquet Committee Report: John has changed the reservations at the Leavenworth Eagles for our annual banquet to January 23rd , 2016. No menu is set, yet.
Webmaster Report: Brent can assist any members if they have difficulty accessing the website. If you have suggestions for the web site or need help or a password, contact Brent.
Vice President’s The Lowrance Seminar, scheduled for the 3rd of October has been scrubbed. If any member still wants to do an on-water setup and demo with a Lowrance rep, contact Larry. Roger Umbarger from the Independence BPS can meet us at Smithville Lake once it’s coordinated.
President’s Report:
- Steve and Mike Brooks will head up the “fish stakes” at F3 this year on Saturday morning, 9:00 to noon and they are looking for about 3 more volunteers to assist them. See Steve Read for assisting on this project.
- Also, Dennis volunteered to attend the MOBASS meeting on September 19th in Warsaw. Thanks Dennis.
- Available thru MOBASS
- Case (4 gallons) of Yama lube for $55.00
- (12 bottles) of Ring Free available for $120.00 a case
- National dues for next year will remain 30.00, but some amount will be rebated to the clubs, depending on the # of members.
Fishing for Freedom: Still need more boaters. New agenda for boaters. Friday night a get together at Anglers Port for the boaters to get them more quickly on fish instead of coming to Truman “cold”. Possible hot dogs and burgers as well.
Old Business: The committee looking into the options for non-DOD ID holders to get on post for our monthly meetings reported:
- Most places surveyed off post have a use fee, or cannot be scheduled on a long term reoccurring basis. The library in town was a possible choice but could only be schedule 90 days in advance, assuming they accepted our non-profit status.
- You cannot stop at Grant Gate after 4:30 PM and get a one day visitor pass
- The only way to get an annual visitor pass is to be affiliated with an on-post organization, like the Rod and Gun Club, or others. Some members agreed this is the least expensive organization to join (30.00 for bass club members)
- Existing passes are good till they expire.
- Several members offered to meet at the 1st Command parking lot and escort them in for each meeting.
- After discussions, the club decided to maintain status quo and use the escort option for non-DOD ID holders as needed.
New Business: The members discussed how to use last year’s free entry for this year’s MOBASS state team tournament. Only 8 members who fished last year (and won the team title) are signed up for this year. The club voted to pay the entry fee for those 8, and the remaining fee was prorated among everyone else signed up for this year’s event.
By-Law changes. None
New Members: Todd McGowan, a co-worker of Rich Pearl filled out an application and was invited to join. The club voted unanimously to accept him.
New Equipment Report: No report
Outside Activities:
A team from the club won the 6 man KS Championship held recently at Stockton Lake. The team of Larry Stoafer, Ray Cates, Dennis Edwards, Sam Morton, Randy Kenton and Danny Lee bested some of the better anglers that KS had to offer. Good job, guys.
MOBASS news: The next quarterly meeting of MOBASS clubs will be in Warsaw on September 19th.
