The next club meeting will be on Monday, June 7th, 2021 at Larry Stoafer’s toy barn.

The website is located at the following address: http://theleavenworthbassclub.org/ If you need assistance signing up for the forum, contact the webmaster, Brent Goss.

Welcome: The Leavenworth Bass Club held their meeting on May 3rd at Larry Stoafer’s toy barn. Thank you, Larry very much for offering the location to our club members. There were 19 members present. The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Secretary Report: All members are currently in good standing with BASS National and MOBASS.

Treasurer Report: LBC checking account beginning balance was $10,161.21 and the ending balance is $10,657.34.

Conservation Committee Report:

  • Eric is working on a project, potentially at Hillsdale Lake, planting “spider tubes”. Time frame will probably be in the September-October range.

Youth Director Report:

  • More info to follow, but here are several youth events in the near future to include:
    • May 15th, Kid’s Fishing Derby on Ft Leavenworth’s Smith Lake.
    • June 5th, the Olathe Kid’s Fishing Derby at Cedar Lake.

Banquet Committee: No report.

Webmaster Report: Brent has been busy updating the website.

Vice President Report: No report.

President Report:

  • Bob thanked Larry for hosting another LBC meeting.
  • You all should have received my note regarding the transition of Fort Leavenworth to PHASE II Bravo of reopening. If you do not have a DOD nexus and need to renew your local access credential, do not wait; start the process now. The LBC Board of Directors is set a target of July to resume meeting at the Rod and Gun Club, which will allow for ample time for those needing to renew their credentials to do so.
  • Bob attended the MOBASS meeting Saturday 10 April. His trip report is with the Secretary to be included in the May minutes; however, the big take away was the outcome of the vote regarding the two proposed rule changes.
  • Tournament Rule Change Proposals
    • Draw partners within your own club at the State Championship.
    • Change the length limit to coincide with lake length limits at the State Championship. Example: 12” Kentucky Spotted Bass allowed at LoZ and Truman.
  • A roll call vote of clubs represented occurred for each proposal. No proxy votes counted.
  • Proposal 1, Draw partners within your own club at the State Championship failed to pass with 18 votes NO and 9 votes YES. MOBASS will continue to conduct the draw as they have in the past; however, they do plan to enforce no borrowing alternates from other clubs prior to the first day of the tournament.
  • Proposal 2, Change the length limit to coincide with lake length limits passed with 19 votes YES and 8 Votes NO. MOBASS will now follow lake length limits when weighing fish.
  • In November 2020, President Trump signed a proclamation giving veterans and Gold Star families free access to over 2,000 federal recreation areas such as National Parks, wildlife refuges, and forests. Included are Corps of Engineer facilities such as boat ramps. Additional info is available online. The Corps office at Perry Lake issued my pass.

Fishing for Freedom: There were several issues concerning this year’s Fishing for Freedom that will be addressed by the Board of Directors.

Old Business: Bill Gevedon discussed a mobile wash & detailing company that will do boats or cars at your location. Their phone numbers are 913-620-5582| or 785-424-0929 and the  website is www.bjpremiumdetail.com

New Business:  None

New Members: One potential new member, Jeff Shugart was at the meeting. He is a friend of Randy Kenton.

By-Law Changes: None.

New Equipment Report:  No report.

Outside Activities:

  • Bill Gevedon mentioned the KS TBF qualifier the first weekend in June at Wilson Reservoir.
  • Congratulations to Larry Stoafer for winning the Mr Bass tournament at Glen Elder last weekend. It was a squeaker but he held on for the win.
  • Also, congratulations to Ray Cates for qualifying to fish the BASS Nation National Championship later this year in West Monroe, LA at the Ouachita River. Ray fished the BASS Nation Central Regional Championship at Milford Lake in Junction City, KS. and finished 2nd overall missing the win by only 2 ounces.

Alibis: None.
