For all of you that missed the March meeting, you missed a chance to win a free entry into a 2012 season tournament.  Just remember, you cannot affect any club decisions or win a free entry into a tournament, if you do not show up for the meetings! Be sure to plan to attend the April meeting.   Come early and join us around the bar.

The March 5th, 2012 General Membership Meeting Minutes follows:

WELCOME

The Leavenworth Bass Club held its regular monthly meeting on March 5th at the Fort Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club Clubhouse.  There were 20 members present. The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes for the February 6th 2012 general membership meeting were approved as written.  They were e-mailed to all members and were posted to the club website.  Some members are having issues receiving the emailed minutes due to Fort Leavenworth’s email account restrictions.  Please inform Travis if you are not receiving the emails and he can find an alternative way of getting them to you.  All IRS filings and Kansas not for profit filings have been submitted and accepted.

Treasurer’s Report:   Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $3001.82 and a current balance of $2552.74. The Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $2146.16 in the Fishing for Freedom account with a current balance of $2142.74.  The Fishing For Freedom PayPal account has a current balance of $ 0. The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Conservation Committee:  No Report

Youth Committee:   Bill thanked everyone who helped with the Casting for Kids event at Cabela’s.  Jimmy Lopez of Cabela’s helps the club out with donations every year.  In return, it’s good to show our support and help with their events when we can.

The following was included in the last newsletter.  We wanted to revisit it in case you missed it:

Support to the Northwest Missouri University Fishing Club:
Two main issues with the NWMSU club, 1) support for some of their meetings, and 2) support for a joint tournament with a club out of Nebraska at Mozingo on 6 May, the day after our tournament.  I do not have the details, have not talked to their tournament director yet, but I will.  Here are the details Tyler Ruoff proposed: “We have also connected to the Omaha Bass Club, and are trying to work out a tournament.  We had the idea that the Omaha Club would take on the University of Nebraska team as non-boaters, competing against your Leavenworth Club with our Northwest Club being your non-boaters.  We can work out specifics of rules, limits for this; I think it would be a fun opportunity for both of the collegiate clubs as well as yours and Omaha’s.  If you would like to present this to your club and brainstorm some ideas about it that would be great!”

That is all I know, so far.  This could be run like the one we did last year – 1 student per boat, 5 or 6 fish limit (boater can only contribute 2 or 3). We’ve already paid for the regatta permit, $100 so I’d propose the other club fund and run a picnic.  More details as I have them.

  • Support for their club meetings. We did this several times last year. Drive up to Maryville, give a class, eat at Brett Ware’s BBQ place (comp’d) and we pay for our own gas.  This is what they’ve told me so far:
  • “Our officer team has scheduled this semester’s meetings, they are as follows:

FEB: 7th, 21st, MAR: 6th, 20th, 27th, APR: 3rd, 10th, 17th

All meetings are at 6:30pm in Colden Hall room 3700.  Some topics that club members expressed interest in Topwater, Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Swimbaits, Texas Rig.

We would love for you and others in your club to come do a few of these presentations, all of the above dates are open for topics, so whatever works for your schedules would be great.  Just let me know who would like to come up for which meeting and what presentation will be given, and I will add it to our calendar.  We look forward to it!

NOTE:  The LBC General Membership reaffirmed their commitment to support the NWMU Fishing Club.  It was determined that the 7 February 2012 meeting was too soon to provide any meaningful presentations, however, Larry Stoafer volunteered to provide a seminar on 6 March, and Shawn Dalrymple committed to provide a seminar for the group on 10 April 2012Bill Horvath will act as the POC to solicit additional presentations and maintain a roster of participants and topics presented.  If you have an interest in presenting a seminar or attending an NWMU event, please contact Bill Horvath.

            Banquet Committee:  No Report

Webmaster:  Travis has added the link to the Missouri Federation onto our webisite.  Anything you would like to see on the website please let Travis know and he can do his best to get it on there.

Vice President’s report:  There will be a cookout at Table Rock Saturday the 17th most likely at Schooner Creek.  Bill is working out the details.

President’s Report:  No Report

OLD BUSINESS:  The subject of the MO B.A.S.S Federation tournament was brought up.  This is from MO Bass Federation website which can be found at www. mobass.com.

2. PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILTY: Participation in this tournament is by invitation only, and is open to chapters in good standing of the Missouri B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation Nation as of the April Board of Director’s Meeting. Any Chapter wishing to participate after that date is at the discretion of the Board of Directors of Missouri B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation Nation. Contestants must be member in good standing of the Missouri B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation Nation, B.A.S.S. National Federation and The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society on or before the June Board of Director’s Meeting of the tournament year. Anglers must be 16 years of age or older. Each chapter must enter a four (4), six (6), eight (8), or ten (10) man team. The number of the team will not exceed 80% of the total club membership. “A team captain must be designated and must attend the team captain’s meeting at the tournament.”

The club discussed ways to select the team that goes to the state federation tournament.  A motion was issued and seconded on using the standings of the current year based on and up to the tournaments fished  from November through August.  It was voted on and passed.

If interested in fishing the MO B.A.S.S Federation tournament you can review the rules here:   http://mobass.com/documents/Missouri_B.A.S.S._Federation_Nation_Tournament_Rules.pdf

Bass Pro Shops Classic Weekend:

We are invited to setup a table at the BPS classic weekend:  Bill received an email from the person that runs their promotions and we and other local clubs are invited to set up a table on 10 & 11 March during their Spring Classic event.  This is a great opportunity for new member recruitment and to continue spreading the word about the entire terrific thing we do, including F3 for 2012.  It would be best to do both days if possible.  Bill Horvath has volunteered to make flyers, handouts; we can use the storyboards Larry has for F3.  No promises for free food or discounts, but …… you never know.   Two members per shift should be plenty, but can do three if wanted.

The following note is from Kelsey Downing BPS employee;

”We spoke earlier about the Spring Fishing Classic, we would love to have Leavenworth Bass Club set up a booth and interact with our customers. The dates and times for the booths will be Friday March 9th 10-8p, Saturday March 10th 10-6p, and Sunday March 11th 10-5p. As soon as I receive more information I will be glad to pass it on to you, if you have any questions feel free to contact me at the number listed below. “

NOTE:  Bill Horvath will act as the POC to maintain a roster of participants and provide the necessary organization to ensure our table is manned during the event.  Participation in these events helps towards your tickets chances for Big Cannon and Fishhook drawing at the banquet.

NEW BUSINESS

Jim Wyatt mentioned that Debbi Hollman of Uncle Gabby’s cabins past away.  Whether the motel is going to stay in business is not for sure.  So if you have reservations for the next year you might want to call and double check.

A member brought up that it is time to vote on what we are fishing for in the upcoming tournament season.  The club voted on jackets with LBC logo embroidered on them.

A member brought up that it would be a good idea for the club to put something together on paper about what specific awards are given away at the end of the year.  (example:  angler of the year, sportsman of the year, etc) It was agreed that in the April meeting we would decide what specifics awards would be used and then voted on in May.

B.A.S.S is now accepting life member applications.

Bereavement cards and flowers will be based on elected officer’s discretion.

New Members:  One present: John Mathews.  John enjoys fishing and wants to learn from others.  He is looking for people to fish with.  He owns a Triton with a Mercury 200.

Welcome to the club John.

Tournament Director’s Report:  If you have not already, get a copy of your insurance to Ray before the first tournament.

The club’s next tournament will be held on Table Rock March 17th and 18th 2012.  Schooner Creek Resort is the tournament headquarters and weigh-in location.  On Saturday 17th the tournament starts at 7:00 am or safe light and weigh-in is at 3:00pm at Schooner Creek Resort.  On Sunday the 18th the tournament starts at 7:00am or safe light and weigh-in is at 2:00pm at Schooner Creek Resort.
