For all of you that missed the July meeting, you missed a chance to win a free entry into a 2012 season tournament.  Just remember, you cannot affect any club decisions or win a free entry into a tournament, if you do not show up for the meetings!  The July 2nd, 2012 General Membership Meeting Minutes follows:

 WELCOME

The Leavenworth Bass Club held its regular monthly meeting on July 2nd, 2012 at the Fort Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club Clubhouse.  There were 22 members present. The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes for the June 4th, 2012 general membership meeting were approved as written.  They were e-mailed to all members and were posted to the club website.

Treasurer’s Report:   Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $3814.49 and a current balance of $4588.60. The Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $2680.55 in the Fishing for Freedom account and a current balance of 7327.95.  The Fishing For Freedom PayPal account has a current balance of $ 0. The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Conservation Committee: Dan has started 2 conservation programs.  Dan spoke with Berkley Fishing and they can recycle only mono fishing line.  The recycled line is made into artificial fishing habitat.  So collect all your mono fishing line in a zip lock bag and bring it to Dan.

The 2nd program will do the same for used plastics. Members are asked to put the plastics in a zip lock bag and bring to the meetings.

Youth Committee:  Bill Horvath is narrowing down dates for a Kids Fishing derby.  Potential dates are August 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 26th or September 9th.  It will be held from 7am to 11am.  We will need volunteers, so check your calendars and let Bill know which dates work best for you.

Banquet Committee:  Steve Read has volunteered to head the Banquet Committee.  Thanks Steve for stepping up!

Webmaster:  If you have something you would like to see on the website please email it to Travis at wayrnnr@yahoo.com and he will post it.  Fishing pictures or fishing articles would be great.

Vice President’s report:  Bill has lined up a great speaker for the next club meeting.  The head biologist from Mozingo Lake will be speaking.  He will do his seminar at the beginning of the meeting at 7:00.

President’s Report: A thank you card was received from Gary Stephens for the flowers that were sent to his mother’s funeral from the club.

Thank you to the guys who brought food for the meal and cooked the fish.  They did a great job.

Larry Stoafer submitted an article about Fishing For Freedom for the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism.

SEMINAR SUMMARY:  Again Thanks to Jim Wyatt for providing the club this information.  It is good to have this talk every year to refresh our memories and for some of us who are first time boat owners.

The main points from Jim’s seminar about keeping fish alive are:

-Once you put the boat in the water in the mornings fill your live-wells right away. This is the coolest water of the day.

-Jim recommends putting in your live-well additive right away and turn on your aerator/oxygenator.

-Ice is a must have. Frozen jugs work best. Ice bags are good but not the best. Chlorine from dumping ice into the live well can affect the fish negatively. Jim recommends ½ gallon frozen jugs.

-11:00 to 12:00 the water must be changed. You must add more additive and a frozen jug.

-Constant recirculation all day

-30 minutes before weigh-in add another jug of ice

-When waiting at the weigh-in do not put your bag of fish on the asphalt.

-Be sure to help your co-angler with his fish if you do not have flow through live-wells.

Some ways to care for a bleeding fish:

Leave deep hooks in the fish. Cut the line.

Pour U2 on the bleeding area

Pour a soda on the bleeding area.

New Member:  Ed Williams is a new member.  He lives in Leavenworth and will be a co-angler in the club.  He enjoys fishing for any type of fish and has always wanted to join a bass club. Introduce yourself to Ed when you get a chance.
