The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM.  Announcement: Just a reminder that our website is out there for all members to use, so get out there and check it out.  If you have anything that you would like to see on the website, please let Travis Perret know.  The website is located at the following address: http://theleavenworthbassclub.org/.  Also, please inform Travis and Ray concerning your partners for the upcoming Buddy Tournaments so the rosters can be posted and updated accordingly.  This will allow folks looking for partners to figure out who might be available to fish in a given tournament.  Additionally, please check to make sure your personal information is correct on the webpage.  If your information is not correct, please notify Travis to ensure we have the most current information on the club rosters and he will get the webmaster the correct information.

For all of you that missed the February meeting, you missed a chance to win a free entry into a 2012 season tournament.  Just remember, you cannot affect any club decisions or win a free entry into a tournament, if you do not show up for the meetings! Be sure to plan to attend the March meeting.   Come early and join us around the bar.

The 6 February 2012 General Membership Meeting Minutes follows:

The Leavenworth Bass Club held its regular monthly meeting on 6 February at the Fort Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club Clubhouse.  There were 19 members present. The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Secretary’s Report:  Travis was absent from this meeting because he was down with the flu.  There was no Secretary’s Report.  The minutes from the November General Membership Meeting will be addressed / approved at the March Meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $3831.26 and a current balance of $ 3001.82.  The Treasurer reported a beginning balance of $3618.51 in the Fishing for Freedom account with a current balance of $ 2146.16. The Fishing For Freedom PayPal account has a current balance of $ 0. The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

Conservation Committee:  Dan Senterfit reported that he would make contact with the MOBASS Federation Conservation Committee Chairman to explore conservation projects for the upcoming year.

Youth Committee: Bill Horvath was absent from this meeting but he submitted the following reports to be shared with the general membership.

Kids Casting Event:  This is the info off the Cabela’s web site. I have already told Jimmy Lopez that we will support it.  My plan is to set up the same way we have in the past. We will have two lanes, but will only teach and use flipping and pitching –no overhead casts.  I expect we’ll need about 8-10 people (spouses invited) to run this. 2 instructors, 2 scorers, 3 registration and a few to rotate.  I will be there too but on crutches. Jimmy said he’ll provide lunch and the employee discount for us again.  See the attached sign up roster. I’ll need a few people to help with setup at 1130, and everyone else there by 1200.

Kid’s Casting Contest March 4, Sunday 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. African Diorama Please join our local bass club for a Kid’s Casting Contest. The children will be able to cast for accuracy with a point system in place for where the lure lands. Four age divisions and rewarding as follows per division:
3-5 Years
1st Place – $50.00 gift card plus trophy
2nd Place – Fishing Pole
3rd Place – Fishing Pole
6-8 Years
1st Place – $50.00 gift card plus trophy
2nd Place – Fishing Pole
3rd Place – Fishing Pole

NOTE:  Bill Gevedon volunteered to collect names for this event.  If you want to sign up to support the kids casting event please notify Bill.

Support to the Northwest Missouri University Fishing Club:
Two main issues with the NWMSU club, 1) support for some of their meetings, and 2) support for a joint tournament with a club out of Nebraska at Mozingo on 6 May, the day after our tournament.  I do not have the details, have not talked to their tournament director yet, but I will.  Here are the details Tyler Ruoff proposed: “We have also connected to the Omaha Bass Club, and are trying to work out a tournament.  We had the idea that the Omaha Club would take on the University of Nebraska team as non-boaters, competing against your Leavenworth Club with our Northwest Club being your non-boaters.  We can work out specifics of rules, limits for this; I think it would be a fun opportunity for both of the collegiate clubs as well as yours and Omaha’s.  If you would like to present this to your club and brainstorm some ideas about it that would be great!”

That is all I know, so far.  This could be run like the one we did last year – 1 student per boat, 5 or 6 fish limit (boater can only contribute 2 or 3). We’ve already paid for the regatta permit, $100 so I’d propose the other club fund and  run a picnic.  More details as I have them.

  • Support for their club meetings. We did this several times last year. Drive up to Maryville, give a class, eat at Brett Ware’s BBQ place (comp’d) and we pay for our own gas.  This is what they’ve told me so far:
  • “Our officer team has scheduled this semester’s meetings, they are as follows:

FEB: 7th, 21st, MAR: 6th, 20th, 27th, APR: 3rd, 10th, 17th

All meetings are at 6:30pm in Colden Hall room 3700.  Some topics that club members expressed interest in Topwater, Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Swimbaits, Texas Rig.

We would love for you and others in your club to come do a few of these presentations, all of the above dates are open for topics, so whatever works for your schedules would be great.  Just let me know who would like to come up for which meeting and what presentation will be given, and I will add it to our calendar.  We look forward to it!

I cannot go in February, but would really like one of our officers to go up for the first contact, even give one of the presentations they requested. I will plan on going in March.  Free BBQ is not too bad, and splitting the gas without towing a boat between 2 is manageable. I do NOT expect the club to pay for the gas.

NOTE:  The LBC General Membership reaffirmed their commitment to support the NWMU Fishing Club.  It was determined that the 7 February 2012 meeting was too soon to provide any meaningful presentations, however, Larry Stoafer volunteered to provide a seminar on 6 March, and Shawn Dalrymple committed to provide a seminar for the group on 10 April 2012Bill Horvath will act as the POC to solicit additional presentations and maintain a roster of participants and topics presented.  If you have an interest in presenting a seminar or attending an NWMU event, please contact Bill Horvath.

Banquet Committee:  The club held its annual awards banquet at the American Legion in Leavenworth on 28 January 2012.  Following a happy hour and a fine buffet dinner, we recognized guests and sponsors and then presented awards to the members, to include the top 10 members for their successes in the 2011 tournaments, and our Sportsman of the Year.

In 2011, we fished 13 tournaments at 5 different lakes. We caught and released a total of 1265.29 lbs of bass which was an increase over 2010 by over 130 lbs. the average weigh in weight per angler was 5.53 lbs, which also was an increase over 2010 by .64 lbs. Webmaster:  Travis our webmaster was absent so there was no Webmaster Report.

Vice President’s report:  Bill Horvath was absent but provided this report:

Bass Pro Shops Classic Weekend:

We are invited to setup a table at the BPS classic weekend:  Bill received an email from the person that runs their promotions and we and other local clubs are invited to set up a table on 10 & 11 March during their Spring Classic event.  This is a great opportunity for new member recruitment and to continue spreading the word about the entire terrific thing we do, including F3 for 2012.  It would be best to do both days if possible.  Bill Horvath has volunteered to make flyers, handouts; we can use the storyboards Larry has for F3.  No promises for free food or discounts, but …… you never know.   Two members per shift should be plenty, but can do three if wanted.

The following note is from Kelsey Downing BPS employee;

”We spoke earlier about the Spring Fishing Classic, we would love to have Leavenworth Bass Club set up a booth and interact with our customers. The dates and times for the booths will be Friday March 9th 10-8p, Saturday March 10th 10-6p, and Sunday March 11th 10-5p. As soon as I receive more information I will be glad to pass it on to you, if you have any questions feel free to contact me at the number listed below. “

NOTE:  Bill Horvath will act as the POC to maintain a roster of participants and provide the necessary organization to ensure our table is manned during the event.

President’s Report:

The President reported on the January MOBASS meeting that was attended by members of the LBC.  The next MOBASS Directors Meeting is scheduled 21 April 2012 in Warsaw MO.   A schedule of MOBASS Tournaments was distributed in addition to discussion around the State Qualifier.  The State Qualifier is scheduled for 21, 13, 14 October at Table Rock.  Raffle Tickets were presented to the LBC from MOBASS (100 ea).  The Raffle prizes were donated by MOBASS and a drawing will be conducted at the April MOBASS meeting.  All proceeds from the sales of Raffle Tickets are retained by the LBC.  An idea was presented to sell tickets at our table during the BASS PRO SHOPS Spring Classic event.  Please see Mike Brooks for tickets.

NOTE:  There was discussion by the LBC members around the number of members we could field to compete for the State Team.  The answer was, we could send up to a max of 10 anglers to the State Qualifier.  More discussion indicated there was considerable interest by the membership in participating and that up to this point it was a volunteer process.  Larry Stoafer volunteered to reserve rooms for up to 8 anglers at Fish Hook Resort in preparation for the State Qualifier.

Lowrance Seminars:  Shawn Dalrymple asked if there was any interest in his presenting seminars on Lowrance features following the regular LBC meetings.  There was a significant response by the members present.  Shawn agreed to make a presentation following the regular March meeting.  Shawn also solicited for additional topics of interest with regard to Lowrance functions that members want.

Fishing for Freedom:  Larry Stoafer presented this report; 2011 was a great year for FFF.  Significant contributions from business and the community may mandate that FFF Committee explore the possibility of becoming a Limited Liability Company (LLC) in an effort to protect the organization and its volunteers.

New Members:  none present

Bylaw Changes:

Bill Gevedon proposed a change to our current procedure for selecting the winners of the annual Big Canon and Fish Hook Resort trips.  Bill made his proposal in an effort to increase participation in club events.  There was considerable discussion by several members present.  Bill made his proposal in the form of a Motion that was ultimately seconded by Ray Hillebrand.  The Motion stated that a member receive one chance (ticket) for every LBC sanctioned event that they participated in for a given year (each event must be open to any/all club members so that they could participate if they desired).  Each event will be counted as one chance  (e.g. each Club Meeting attended, each tournament fished, the conservation project, Kids Casting Events, Youth Tournament, State Meetings, presenting seminars, etc.  While

multiple day events e.g.  Fishing for Freedom be counted as one chance although it may run over several days.  When presented for a vote the motion passed.  The membership did acknowledge that there would be a significant amount of bookkeeping required to ensure every member received the appropriate credit for every event he participated in.  At the end of the

year all tickets would be enter in the drawing for both the Big Canon Trip and the Fish Hook Resort Trip.

NOTE:  A recommended matrix of events will be developed and presented at the next regular LBC meeting.

 Tournament Director’s Report: No Report

Free Tournament Entry:  Bill Fredrick was the lucky winner of one free tournament entry to be used in the 2012 season.

There being no further official business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
