Welcome:
- The Leavenworth Bass Club held its regular monthly meeting on April 1st at the Ft Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club. There were 19 members present. The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Secretary Report:
- The newsletter for March 2019 was mailed to all current members. A motion was made to accept the newsletter as written, motion was seconded and approved by majority vote.
- Each member got a current email roster with the March Newsletter. If anyone needs to send an email to “all” please use the current e-mail roster.
Treasurer Report:
- LBC checking account beginning balance was $6462.90 and the ending balance is $5959.40. The Fishing for Freedom account beginning was $18,192.45, and the ending balance is $14,061.43. The Pay Pal account has $145.05. A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s report as read, motion seconded and was approved by majority vote.
Conservation Committee Report:
On April 13th at 8:00 am we will meet at Mozingo Lake to assemble the Mossy Oak habitat to be placed into Mozingo Lake. We will meet at the City Ramp. Tory Mason will have his barge but if you want to bring your boat it would speed up the process. A bass boat can hold two Mossback trees.
- We will have to record the GPS locations for
Tory.
- Volunteers to assist Eric in transporting the cinder blocks are John Matthews, Bill Gevedon. They will meet at the Leavenworth Home Depot on April 12th at 1700 to pick up the blocks.
- LBC volunteers for the April 13th project are: Eric Verburg, Bob Greene, Mike Brooks, Bob Jorgensen, Bill Gevedon, John Matthews, and Steve Read. John Cruz is tentative. Any other members that are available to attend are welcome.
- Brett Ware from Tightlines UV may be on site to provide BBQ. Eric will confirm. If there is no commitment for lunch, Mike Brooks will be in charge of a hot dog type lunch for the crew.
- 40 Creek Whiskey will have a marketing representative at the event to take photos. MOBASS reports that at the Mexico club event, also sponsored by 40 Creek there was 40 Creek merchandise and Whiskey samples provided. Since there will be a photographer on site it is recommended that you wear your club jersey for the photo opportunities.
Youth Director Report:
- Drawing for the NWMSU Fishing Club is fund raiser, a Henry .22 lever action rifle will be held on April 2, 2019. Winner should be contacted via telephone number on the stub that was turned in. Randy Kenton’s was issued a new ticket since he forgot to turn in his stub.
- Eric was provided with the NWMSU Fishing Club President’s contact information in order to solicit volunteers for the April 13th conservation project at Mozingo.
- June 22nd is the date for the Leavenworth County Commissioners Kids Fishing Derby. The KFD will be held at Happy Hollow Lake and the county is once again seeking assistance from LBC. Although this date conflicts with the LBC tournament at Hudson Lake, OK if any members do not plan to fish Hudson they are requested to support the KFD as shore patrol, etc. More details to follow at the May and June meetings.
Banquet Committee: Mike has scheduled the banquet for January 25th, 2020.
Webmaster Report: Webmaster was not in attendance. President requested that the TD send the current tournament schedule to the Webmaster for posting. The 2018 schedule is still up.
Vice President Report: Nothing significant to report.
President Report:
- The May Tournament will occur prior to the first Monday of the month. We have secured use of the Rod & Gun Club for Monday April 29th in order to hold the May meeting. If you cannot make that meeting for whatever reason, and you want to fish Table Rock in May, please get with the TD to let him know so that he can prepare cards, etc.
- June Dates: We will have the dates for the June meeting on April 29th. We still need to confirm availability of the R&GC clubhouse. The elected officers expect there to be a meeting prior to each of the June tournaments. Expect to target Tuesday May 28th and Monday June 17th. Mark Luna has been asked to confirm availability for those dates.
- TH Marine: Let Bob know if you want to get in on the next TH Marine Order. Looking to order in Mid-April if there is enough interest.
- Larry will lead the Rod & Gun Club’s annual Christmas tree habitat emplacement project in Smith Lake on Ft. Leavenworth 20 April at 1100. Larry requests strong backs, and a small aluminum boat and 24 V TM. If anyone has a boat that could be used please contact Larry. If you are available to assist, Larry would welcome the help.
- My 2 cents on the Saturday evening social. Mark is doing us all a favor by laying on Saturday evening social. More than once Mark has been left holding the bag on the expense. It seems pretty simple. If you plan to attend, let Mark know ahead of time so that he can plan accordingly and if you attend then make sure you seek out Mark to pay your fair share so that he isn’t stuck with the bill. We are all adults and Mark should not have to hunt anyone down to pay at the end of the evening. If you want to provide something to share with the group, that’s always welcome.
Fishing for Freedom: Steve Read reports he & Bill Horvath are seeking Rod & Reel Sponsorship through BPS. More to follow from corporate. Kenny Hackworth reports that the money is on track for this year’s event; no foreseen financial issues.
Old Business: Last Month: There was some discussion about what to do with the money donated by Shoreline Boat & RV Repair. The president asked for ideas to be presented at the April meeting.
- A couple of options were discussed with regard to how best to utilize the money in a manner that would benefit the membership majority.
- A motion was made to split the money equally, add half of the money to the classic pot and half of the money to the banquet fund. This would be in addition to the normal monies allocated for each thereby increasing the classic payout and adding money to the banquet pot for some higher end / more prizes. The motion was seconded, and passed by majority vote.
New Business: John Cruz requested to know the process by which to find a boater for future tournaments. John was instructed to contact the TD to let him know that if there are any single boaters looking for a partner that he is available. It is also recommended that any Co-Angler looking for a boater to share expenses with utilize the forum on the LBC website, and the current email / phone roster.
New Members: None.
New Equipment Report: Mike Brooks reports that he took the advice of Bob Greene and Larry Stoafer on Fox River Rods. Mike purchased several models of the Fox River Bass rods and likes them thus far. If anyone would like to take a look, Mike will have them at Pomme. Fox River website: https://www.foxriverluresandrods.com/
Outside Activities: None
Alibis: None
Tournament Director:
- Mark reported that he may have made an error recently in not putting late entrants at the bottom of the launch order for both days. As a rule, late entrants are last out. The inversion of the list for day 2 is for those that were included in the draw.
The March 2019 tournament was held at Stockton Lake, MO on March 23rd & 24th

Thanks to Mike Brooks for door prizes. The club was able to put $43 in the general fund.
The free tournament entry was won by Steve Read
Mike Brooks donated a $50 gift certificate for Tightlines UV. A drawing was held of the members present and the certificate was won by Eric Verburg.
There being no further official business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45
Randy Kenton presented an overview on safety, first aid and ways to reenter the boat after falling overboard – Invaluable information that sparked great conversation and ideas; most notably that we all need to practice these techniques in warm weather and check to ensure that we have a PFD that will adequately float us when wearing our heaviest winter gear. Thanks Randy.
