Welcome: The Leavenworth Bass Club held its monthly meeting on October 1st at the Ft Leavenworth Rod and Gun Club. There were 20 members present. The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Secretary Report:
- The September 2018 newsletter was emailed to all current members and posted on the web site. The Secretary’s report was approved as read.
- Please report any serious injuries or (hopefully not) deaths in a member’s immediate family so the proper response can be sent from the club.
Treasurer Report:
- LBC checking account beginning balance was $7,472.87 and the ending balance is $5,872.87. The Fishing for Freedom account beginning balance was $52,456.43 and the ending balance is $36,279.90. the Pay Pal account has $00.00. The Treasurer’s report was approved as read.
- Next month the club will discuss and probably approve the budget for the 2019 year.
Conservation Committee Report:
- Eric and several club members met at Hillsdale Lake and assembled Georgia Cubes on September 22nd. Thanks to Jack Millar, Casey Wit, Mike Brooks, Ken Hackworth, and Eric.
- Eric has submitted the grant request from 40 Creek Whiskey. 40 Creek whiskey is a new BASS conservation partner and has selected three states Missouri, Texas, and Georgia to receive individual grants in the amount of $10,000. Any money available will be divided into four individual grants or the amount of $2500.
Youth Director Report:
- The NWMSU fishing club completed some basic angling instruction of knot tying, pitching & flipping, casting, and equipment setup at the Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation area on October 2nd. Many thanks to Steve Read and Mike Brooks for their assistance.
- The next Bearcat Open will be held at Mozingo Lake on October 20th. This is a team event and the fishing club is requesting at least three boats to take out students who would like to fish. If you can provide a boat, let Bill know by noon on Monday, October 15th. Basic details are:
- Pre-takeoff meeting at 6:30 at the Main Ramp.
- 7:00 take off and weigh-in at 3:00
- $60.00 per boat
- 1st place will win $300.00
Banquet Committee:
- Mike Brooks says everything is on track.
- The club members present discussed the possible awards for the January banquet and decided on new jerseys. Steve Read volunteered to coordinate buying the new jerseys for the awardees. Thanks Steve.
- We will again purchase 10 live Target lures from MOBASS for $5.00 ea for the banquet.
- All ladies’ gifts have been purchased already. Thanks Erica.
Webmaster Report: Ray Hillebrand has volunteered to be the webmaster for the upcoming fishing year. If you need access please contact Ray.
Vice President Report: None.
President Report:
- Bob reminded the members that there is a discount for MOBASS Nation members for Culprit fishing tackle. The new discount code should be on the members only area.
- Bob & Gev attended the MOBASS meeting at Pomme de Terre on September 15th.
- There is more information from the MOBASS president at the end of this newsletter.
Fishing for Freedom:
- Larry reported no major issues in planning, except as usual, we are short about 30 boats.
- This is the 10th anniversary of the event.
Old Business:
- The members present discussed the selections for the annual “Sportsman of the Year” award. The three members chosen were Bob Greene, Bill Gevedon, and Bill Horvath. An additional secret vote was taken and of the three was selected. The winner will be announced at the January banquet.
New Business:
- Officer elections were held and all current serving members volunteered for one more year except for the vice president and webmaster. Thanks to Mike Brooks for stepping up to be the vice president and to Ray Hillebrand to serve as the new web master.
- Thanks to the outgoing members for their service.
New Members: two new members were voted in and will officially join at the November meeting. Welcome to both of you:
- Casey Wit will be a co-angler, lives in Lansing.
- Kenny Dawson lives in Independence and will be a boater.
New Equipment Report: None.
Outside Activities: LBC had 3 boats fishing Stockton this month, trying to get on the KBN state team. Congratulations to Garrett Cates for making the team.
